How to Power a Gaming or Home-Office Desk Setup in South Africa
Share
A tidy desk setup starts with knowing what needs power. A gaming PC or laptop, monitor, router, speakers, phone and accessories can quickly fill the available sockets.
Start by checking what each device needs
Before plugging everything in, check the power rating on each device and add up the total load. Keep the combined load within the power strip’s stated limit, and follow the instructions for your equipment. Avoid connecting one power strip to another, and don’t use a desk strip for high-power appliances unless its instructions specifically allow it.
Keep charging and desk devices organised
Group the devices you use every day so their cables are easy to reach and less likely to tangle. For USB-powered accessories, check which port and charging standard your device supports. The Moxom MX-ST17 has four AC sockets, seven USB-A ports and one USB-C PD port rated up to 20W, with a 2-metre cord. Its stated maximum is 2500W total, so check your connected devices’ ratings and stay within that limit.
Choose a setup that fits your space
Measure the distance from your wall outlet to your desk before choosing a cord length. Place the power strip where its switch and ports are accessible, and keep cables arranged so they don’t create a trip hazard or get pinched behind furniture.
